Y St-er Jennifer Lu rocked it in August with a series of completed projects. Despite spending a month having a blast in China this summer, Jennifer came back ready for action. “Aside from all of the food and fun, something else had an even deeper impact on me- the amount of smoke in the air.”
“It seemed like everywhere I turned, someone was lighting a cigarette. What surprised me even more though, was how carelessly some went about this unhealthful act. I saw people throwing their cigarette butts into the nearest bushes while we were hiking on a mountain 1,600 meters in the air! Sometimes I wondered if they were at all conscious of the consequences of their actions.”
Jennifer jumped into action when she got home and signed up for 2 Meltdown projects that night! “I knew that I would be leaving for college soon after I came home, so I had to get started with projects immediately.”
On her Y St. experience: “This was my first year working with Y St. and to be honest, I wish that I became involved in it much earlier. I am currently attending the University of Virginia, which means that I am officially a Y St. alum. But I will continue to do whatever I can to help promote tobacco-free lifestyles and I hope that future Y St-ers will continue to work hard to do the same.” Well said Jennifer, and best of luck from all of Y St.!
