Can you imagine not being able to give or receive presents on Christmas morning? Not getting a big slice of juice honey ham on Christmas Eve? What about not having the access to read this very article? For millions families, that is their reality.

As the United States is experiencing the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, the homeless population has increased dramatically. The worsening economy and rising unemployment numbers are leaving families in your city hungry, cold, and in need of a good holiday meal.

Last year Dosomething.org (a national organization) collected one million pounds of food for the homeless. This year they hope to surpass this by far. Want to join the cause? It's simple! All you have to do is start up your own food drive and find a food bank near your neighborhood to donate it to. You can start up a food drive at your school, through your church, or simply with friends and family. Spread the word, collect and weigh all of the food you receive, have fun with it, and take lots of pictures!

Once you finish your collection, send off what you have to your local food bank and then report your weight to Dosomething.org.

You can get some great tips on how to start your own food drive here. The Feed the Need food drive will end on December 15th so hurry and get started! You can win a pizza party sponsored by Dosomething.org and a donation of $1,000 to your local food bank.
