After months of being sold only in test markets in Indianapolis and Dallas, Marlboro Snus is going nationwide. Starting in April, people will be able to buy Marlboro-brand Snus anywhere. Even though people under 18 can’t buy Snus legally, we think that Snus is going to appeal to a lot of underage teens.
New dissolvable tobacco products like Marlboro snus are not cigarettes, so they do not fall under FDA regulations. That means tobacco companies can advertise in magazines, including magazines with high youth readership like Rolling Stone and People. They can’t advertise cigarettes in magazines, so why should they be allowed to advertise other tobacco products? And with flavors like peppermint and spearmint, dissolvable tobacco products like Marlboro Snus are likely to attract teens who currently don’t smoke.
Snus may be going global, but Camel’s Orbs, Sticks, and Strips are still in test markets -- and we want to keep it that way. Get involved in the Meltdown Campaign and fight back before the other products go nationwide, too. Log in to Helix and sign up for a project today!
